Enschede, 1986 – 1991. He studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and then completed a Master's degree at the Royal College of Art in London (1992 – 1994) where he was head of Product Design from 2009 to 2013. In 1996 he founded the Studio Tord Boontje.

Studio Tord Boontje has developed several products and pieces of furniture for brands such as: Alexander McQueen, Moroso, Habitat, Artecnica, Swarovski, Kvadrat, Perrier-Jouët; Shiseido.
The most recent awards are: 2013 and 2007 Red Dot Awards; 2006 IF Product Design Award for the Table Stories table; 2005 Dutch Designer of the Year; 2005 Innovation Prize for textile collection, at the Cologne Fair.
