Marquina oil can 1961

Rafael Marquina

The Marquina oil can is an example that big problems require simple solutions. A transparent, stable and precise product that offers the essence of true design.

This iconic piece is probably one of the most copied objects of Spanish design. Nanimarquina is now the publisher, guaranteeing its authenticity by maintaining the original proportions and design, as well as adding the author's signature located on the base of the cruet.

Advantages of the oiler

1. The design of the spout allows for a constant, smooth and precise flow.
2. The treatment of the neck of the oiler and the base of the spout ensures that both parts remain together during service and are watertight to protect the virgin olive oil.
3. The double taper ensures a secure and clean grip and makes the handle dispensable.
4. Removable spout for easy filling and cleaning.
5. A slot at the base of the spout allows air to enter and collects the olive drops that return to the jar.
6. Wide base prevents tipping.
7. The transparency of the glass allows the liquid to be identified.
8. The impermeability of the glass prevents leaks.
9. It can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

"The shape of the oil cans of the time clearly indicated what was expected of them, but the reality left much to be desired. This last consideration led me to design an oil can that, in addition to having a dignified appearance, did not need any explanations and fulfilled its intended use without problems."

"With the same humility as a hand-drawn drawing, our father and grandfather designed this oil cruet in 1961. Now Nanimarquina is responsible for its production, guaranteeing its authenticity."
